Coach Smith
Summary: Coach Smith owns and operates a traveling youth baseball and softball instruction business that services Jefferson, Lewis, and Oswego Counties (New York). Most recently, he served as the social media coordinator (consultant) for the Mid-Atlantic Scouts Association, a professional baseball group comprised of more than 162 former and current Major League Baseball scouts and front-office personnel from 2009 to 2022. Additionally, for 13 years, Coach Smith served as an associate scout for the Toronto Blue Jays, Major League Scouting Bureau, and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He was responsible for scouting and evaluating amateur talent in the Carolinas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
During his collegiate and professional baseball career, Coach Smith pitched for American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Hall of Famer Pete Dunn at Stetson University, legendary skipper Gene McDonald at La Salle University, and five former Major League Baseball players (Ron LeFlore, Paul Blair, Ken Oberkfell, Floyd Youmans, Frank DiMichele). He also coached under ABCA Hall of Famer Dan Gallagher at Fordham University for one season. Coach Smith departed Rose Hill to enlist in the U.S. Army following the terrorist attacks on New York City (September 11, 2001) and recently retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after a distinguished 22-year military career on active duty, which included 16 years as an Army Special Operations Forces Officer, and six combat deployments to the Middle East and South Asia.
On December 15, 2023, Coach Smith had the honor and privilege of opening the Virginia Baseball Coaches Association's Convention at the Fairfax Marriott in Fair Oaks, Virginia. During his "Be-Know-Do" leadership presentation, he shared leadership principles, attributes, and core competencies with hundreds of Virginia youth, high school, and college baseball coaches.
